Butler, Ag: Director, Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to the Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India & Director General of Indian Observatories, Simla, informing about the report from the observer at the Periyakulam station, that the fencing around the rain gauge is dilapidated and suggesting to remove the rain gauge to the enclosure of the thermometer shed as the distance from the current site to shed is about 50 yards but it may not be a serious difference from the records.

This letter is from the sub-Division Officer, PWD, Dindigul, to the Ag: Director, Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories, regarding the rain gauge pillar that is already at Periyakulam, the sanctioned Rs.140 for the works and the materials arrived.

This letter was reply to D.O.No.2637 of the 6th instant saying that K.A.Narayana Aiyar acted as observer at Periyakulam were October 7, 1907 to January 31, 1908, new appointment was made to the post on April 7, 1908, Periyakulam Observatory, and he does'nt have a idea of what a "charge list".

The letter is from Charles P. Butler, Ag: Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories, to The Sub-Divisional Officer, Public Works Department, Dindigul, requesting to arrange with the officer in charge at Periyakulam for collection of sufficient materials for building one small standard base for rain-gauge in the compound of Taluk Cutchery. He wishes that the arrangements be made by when he goes down to Periyakulam And requests to inform him when the preparations are ready.

The letter is from the Executive Engineer, Madura, to the Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories with reference to letter No. 1010 of 2nd March 1904, forwarding a cheque for Rs. 186.3 on the Periyakulam treasury and request to return the accompanying bill dully signed.

The letter is from Gilbert T. Walker to The Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories requesting to inform whether the instruments- "Richard's Barograph" and "Do Thermograph" -are still in use at the Periyakulam Observatory and also the dates on which each of these instruments were brought into use at the observatory. The sheet also has the reply to it, which says the instruments were brought on 1st March 1901 and were still in use.

The letter is from Charles Michie Smith to the Police Inspector, Periyakulam, asking to take some steps to prevent the recurrence of the troubles mentioned in the enclosed letter from the observer at Periyakulam; that letter with the name of people who own the buffaloes state the troubles caused by the trespassing buffaloes and hence requesting the Director to take action. The reply from the Inspector of Police says that he will take necessary action to avoid the recurrence. However, as the offense is non-cognizable, the paper may be forwarded to the Magistrate for necessary action.

The letter is from offg. Director General of Observatories to Charles Michie Smith regarding the observation taken by the brother of the observer, the resignation of the observer, and asking to supply a statement of changes to be made and a copy of the charge list.
