This letter is from W. J. Dunlop to the Executive Engineer informing that the domes etc belonging to the observatory building should be closed under machinery and the cost of such items should be deducted from the capital cost. Also a reply letter from the director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories Michie Smith questioning this is a very troublesome work and also he mentioned that this cannot be reached by any considerate of cost.

The letter is from the General Superintendent, P. W. Workshops, Madras, informing about his visit to Kodaikanal Observatory on 3rd & 9th December 1904. It also mentioned the present condition of the sliding roof and his suggestions for improvement.
