Walker, Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India and Director General of Indian Observatories, to the Director, inquiring whether any notice has been received from Washington regarding a unique series of midnight telegraphic signals to be sent out by the U.S. Naval Observatory on May 3 1905.

This is a circular letter from A.G. Cardew, AG Secretary to Government, regarding adopting standard time for railways and telegraph offices. The standard time in India will be 5.30 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 9 minutes ahead of Madras time. In Burma, it will be 6.30 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 5 minutes and 23 seconds earlier than Rangoon time. The change will be introduced at midnight between June 30 and July 1, 1905.

The letter is from the Superintending Engineer to the Director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories. It contains an estimate to be approved, countersigned, and submitted to the government for sanction. The estimate amounts to Rs.13600 for the construction of a building to house photospectroheliograph in Kodaikanal. Along with the estimates, the plans have also been forwarded.

The letter is from the Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to The Tahsildar of Periyakulam informing that he had asked P. N. Sankarakrishna Aiyar, the Meteorological Observer, to appear before him with his service register. The Director also requests the Tahsildar to kindly obtain Sankarakrishna Aiyar's left-hand finger marks in the register and attest them with his signature on page 3.
