In this item, Professor M.G.K. Menon, the science advisor to the prime minister, revealed a commemorative plaque at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics to celebrate its two centuries of existence. He then presented the first public lecture for IIA's bicentennial on 'international cooperation in science' and planted a Brachychiton acerifilia sapling. Additionally, the institute honoured him with an album containing envelopes specially cancelled at its centres in Kavalur, Kodaikanal, and Gauribidanur.

The album consists of photographs taken during the 40th General Council meeting for 1992-1993 held at the House of Lords and Windsor Manon in Bangalore. There are photos of the general council members, like R. Cowsik, M. G. K. Menon, and Venkatraman Radhakrishnan, in this album.

The album contains photographs of the Bangalore and Kodaikanal campuses library of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. Photographs of the reading area, serial display, stacks, and some of the presentations held in the library area are preserved in the album.

The album contains photographs taken during the unveiling ceremony of the bicentennial plaque at IIA Bangalore campus on 06 January 1987. The bicentennial plaque was unveiled by Prof M. G. K. Menon, former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to commemorate the bicentennial of the setting up an observatory at Madras by Wiliam Petrie in 1786 to which the Indian Institute of Astrophysics traces the origin.
