Dr. Steven V. W. Beckwith was the director of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, Maryland. The STScI is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. It helps humanity explore the universe with advanced space telescopes and ever-growing data archives.
Beckwith has also served as the director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie in Heidelberg, Germany. He is also a professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley.
Beckwith has advocated for the scientific productivity of the Hubble Space Telescope. He has also chaired strategic panels for the NRC, NASA, and ESA.
