        Peter Augustus Wehinger, an observational astronomer known for his work on comets and quasars. His career spanning almost fifty years began with the construction of a 1.3-m telescope at the University of Michigan and ended after retirement from the Steward Observatory where he helped advance major telescope projects and raise funds for student scholarships. Dr. Steven V. W. Beckwith was the director of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, Maryland. The STScI is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. It helps humanity explore the universe with advanced space telescopes and ever-growing data archives.
        Beckwith has also served as the director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie in Heidelberg, Germany. He is also a professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley.
        Beckwith has advocated for the scientific productivity of the Hubble Space Telescope. He has also chaired strategic panels for the NRC, NASA, and ESA.
