            The letter is from John Evershed to The Director General of Observatories, Simla, informing that he agreed to put off special repairs to the roof at a more favorable time as the price of materials is high and asked to do minor repairs that were necessary.

            The letter is from H. B. Peirce, General Superintendent, Public Works Department, to The Executive Engineer, Madura, explaining the arrangement suggested by Mr. Evershed for moving the sliding roof at Kodai. He said the shaft would pass through the room close up to the wall behind the mirror of the spectroheliograph apparatus, but he also said that he was not satisfied that the arrangement would work well unless a handle and winch were fixed at each end of the shaft.
