Johannes Kepler's Astronomia Nova, published in 1609, was the oldest book available in the archives. It contains the results of Kepler's ten-year-long investigation of the motion of Mars. Where previous astronomers had relied on geometric models to explain the observed positions of the planets, Kepler discovered physical causes for planetary motion. Before Kepler, Nicolaus Copernicus proposed in 1543 that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun. Kepler was the first astronomer to prove this conjecture with rigorous scientific arguments. This Volume has 336 pages and is in fairly good condition.

The award was an honour of electing John Evershed as a Fellow of the Royal Society.

He worked with Captain Jacob and Mr.Pogson. He was well known for his work on variable stars, having discovered 2 variable stars, one R Reticuli 1871 and V Cephei 1878. He took an active part in two eclipses, total eclipse of the Sun 1868 and 1871. He was elected a fellow of Royal Astronomical Society in 1872. He brought out a pamphlet on the transit of Venus, This was not only in English but also in several vernacular languages.

Seven official letters pertaining to Gilbert T. Walker from 1903 to 1912 are included in the fond. This includes correspondence between Gilbert T. Walker and the Director of the Kodaikanal Observatory and the Meteorological Reporter to the Government of Madras.

This fond contains letters, annual expenditure reports and bills of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories. It also contains correspondence of John Eliot,Charles Michie Smith and R.E.V.Arbuthnot during July 1901 to March 1903 regarding the index slip, meteorological summaries, seismological reviews and disturbances and other reports like annual expenditure, bills, and telegraphs. It has a report on the condition and proceedings of the government observatory, Colaba, written by N.A.F.Moos. It also has letters from the Royal Society of India, H. Grubb, J. Larmer, R. Fuess, William Butler and Charles P. Butler to the Meteorological Department and Kodaikanal & Madras Observatory.
