This letter is from Charles. P. Butler, Ag: Director, Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to the Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India & Director General of Indian Observatories, Simla, informing about the report from the observer at the Periyakulam station, that the fencing around the rain gauge is dilapidated and suggesting to remove the rain gauge to the enclosure of the thermometer shed as the distance from the current site to shed is about 50 yards but it may not be a serious difference from the records.

This letter was about the reply to the earlier circular, stating that the date of reading is given back of the sheet, thermograph cage and the number of dry and wet bulb thermometers.
