This was a reply letter to W. Huggings kind letter of Sept.8th saying that it is very encouraging to know that our work here is appreciated by you. Then he wrote about radial motion in Sunspots, suggestion of Huggings in 1885, inclination of spectrum and finally climate conditions of Kodaikanal.

This item was about the Sunspot spectra taken by John Evershed, where he discovered that there is a radial outflow of gases in a sunspot. This effect is now known as the "Evershed Effect".

The letter was a critisism by Evershed on the assumption of radial outflow of gases with a velocity increasing with heigh above the photosphere, combined with a constant relativity effect.

This item was about the high resolution line sketch spectra captured by John evershed during his experiment at Kodaikanal Observatory. While experimenting, he came across to capturing the high resolution spectra of Altair, Nova Aquila, Arcturus in the observatory. In this sketch, he pictured the resolution spectra that he observed as Umbra for high resolution and Penumbra for low resolution.
