This item was about the total solar eclipse that occurred on 11 June 1983 in Indonesia. In photos of the event, the Sun appears to be entirely covered by the shadow of the Moon, with only the Sun' corona visible as a bright golden ring.

The item is a 6 inch transit circle. The transit circle is an instrument used to determine the declination of stellar onjects. It consists of a circular scale kept perpendicular to the rotating axis of a telescope tube.

This item was the photostate copy of the original pamphlet of "Transit of Venus" by C.Ragoonatha Chary published in English languages in 1874.

This is the reprinted edition of the “Transit of Venus” original pamphlet published in 1874 by C.Ragoonath Chary. IIA library has redesigned the cover page and added the foreword by Prof.S.S.Hasan, Director, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore and brought out the pamphlet before the world wide event of Transit of Venus on 6th June 2012 and published under IIA Archives Publication Series.
