This item was about the photograph of granite pillar in meteorology department compound at Nungampakkam, Chennai as seen today. In the compound of the Meteorology Department in Chennai, there is a 15-foot tall granite pillar weighing 10 tons. This granite pillar is part of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai and is preserved as a monument. This is the place where Madras Observatory was existed.

Part of Correspondence regarding Kodaikanal Observatory Grounds during 1900-1922

The order is from the Government of Madras to the chairman, the Municipal Council, Kodaikanal, approving the proposal to extend its limits to the observatory buildings and as for the objection from the Director regarding the water supply, the area will be exempted from paying the water tax proviso(b) to section 84 of the Madras District Municipalities Act, 1920.
