This is a proposal letter from the revenue department of the Government of Madras regarding the adoption of standard time in India. The proposal discusses fixing an Indian Standard Time for all Indian railways and telegraphs. It will be precisely 5.30 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 9 minutes ahead of Madras Time. Additionally, the proposal suggests fixing a Burma Standard Time for use on all railways and telegraphs in Burma, which will be precisely 6.30 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 5 minutes ahead of Rangoon time.
