            This is a letter from John Evershed, the Director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories, to the District Magistrate Nellore enclosing the sketch of the locality where the sound is the Loudest. It also states that the superintendent geological survey of India informed that similar sounds are heard in Ongole, and they are mostly due to temperature effects causing fractures in the massive quartz magnetite rock of which the country is composed.
