The item was a petition submitted by P. R. Chidambara Ayer to The Secretary to the Government of India, Revenue and Agricultural Department, about his salary. The facts of the case have been stated very clearly in the petition. The letter was sent to The Director General of Observatories and the Director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories in 1920.

The letter was reply to D.O.No.2440 of the 8th instant, the R.A. clamp at Lahore is intended to be used with two cords and it was explained to Chowla. Further he mentioned about transit instrument and chronograph are extremly shoddy and not in accordance with specification.

Part of Correspondence from Poona and other Observatory

This letter is an extract from U.O. to the government of India, Meteorological Department, on 11th November 1911 regarding dismantling the telescopes and their packing for transit from Poona observatory to Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories by the then Director J. Evershed. In this letter, it was mentioned that the telescopes should be handled with great care, and it was also said that J. Evershed or his deputy should control the packaging by visiting Poona. John Evershed also replied, agreeing with this letter.
