Taylor, Thomas GlanvilleAstronomical Observations Madras, 1792-94 was known as the "Annual Report of 1792". The manuscript volume was divided into three parts. The first part gives a detailed description of the observatory building supplemented with 12 hand-coloured figures of the various sections of the building. Figure 1 is the picture of the Madras Observatory. Parts 2 and 3 record the observations taken for the years 1793 and 1794, respectively.
Madras ObservatoryJohannes Kepler's Astronomia Nova, published in 1609, was the oldest book available in the archives. It contains the results of Kepler's ten-year-long investigation of the motion of Mars. Where previous astronomers had relied on geometric models to explain the observed positions of the planets, Kepler discovered physical causes for planetary motion. Before Kepler, Nicolaus Copernicus proposed in 1543 that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun. Kepler was the first astronomer to prove this conjecture with rigorous scientific arguments. This Volume has 336 pages and is in fairly good condition.
