This item was about the photograph of granite pillar in meteorology department compound at Nungampakkam, Chennai as seen today. In the compound of the Meteorology Department in Chennai, there is a 15-foot tall granite pillar weighing 10 tons. This granite pillar is part of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai and is preserved as a monument. This is the place where Madras Observatory was existed.

The Observations conducted at Kavalur during the 10 March 1977 Uranus occultation of SAO158687 revealed, apart from the occultation by a satellite system known as the e ring, a decrease in the star's brightness near the moment when the planet's atmosphere could have triggered the occurrence. Since then, a theoretical explanation for the genesis of the a, ß, ?, and d rings has been put out in addition to the identities of these rings becoming firmly established. After thoroughly analysing the Kavalur photoelectric record, they provide several novel elements of Uranus' satellite ring system.

Astronomer William Stephen Jacob of India made important advances in the study of Saturn. He made observations of the Sunnian system and reported his findings, which included determining the elements of Saturn's satellites and Jupiter's adjusted mass. In 1852, he and William Lassell observed the transparency of Saturn's "dusky ring" almost simultaneously. In 1861, James Breen truncated Jacob's planetary observations. The Indian government paid for the printing of his books on the Saturnian system. Important new information about Saturn and its moons was made possible by these observations and calculations. One of his best-known pieces is a sketch he made on November 15, 1852, of Saturn. Using the Madras Equatorial, this drawing was created. W. Forrest then etched it. The illustration caught the appearance of Saturn on that specific date, providing valuable insights into the planet's features and characteristics at that time.
