The letter was from Charles P. Butler to John Eliot, the Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India and Director General of Indian Observatories, Simla, in 1903 on giving the information requested by professor Birkeland on photograms.

The letter was written in response to a request from Prof. Birkeland, University of Christiana, for the materials needed for his research. He had requested copies of photograms made on thirty specified days. Gilbert T. Walker signed on behalf of The Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India and the Director General of Indian Observatories.
