This letter from O. R. Scott, Sub division officer, Kodaikanal to the Director informing that a sum of Rs. 2000 has been alloted for the official year for repairing the observatory buildings at Kodaikanal and it is mentioned the estimates now on hand for execution amount to only Rs. 119 and those estimates are also mentioned for special repair to the roof of Directors' residence, chimney of the European assistants' quarters and to the Northern Dome of KSO and also requested to let him know whether any further repairs needed or not.

This letter is from W. J. Dunlop to the Executive Engineer informing that the domes etc belonging to the observatory building should be closed under machinery and the cost of such items should be deducted from the capital cost. Also a reply letter from the director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories Michie Smith questioning this is a very troublesome work and also he mentioned that this cannot be reached by any considerate of cost.

Northey Esquire informing that no such building as the "Solar Physics Observatory" occurs in the register of Public Buildings in charge of PWD and also requested to let him know the correct name of the building. From the records of this office it appeared no certificates for Municipal taxes paid by him for the two buildings referred to in his letter had been granted by this Department in Previous years.

This letter was sent to the Director of Kodaikanal and Madras observatories from the consulting architect to the Govt. of Madras to sanction the plans and estimate submitted to the Govt. It was mentioned that glazed and batten windows had been provided for the transit house, as a wooden floor would be expensive so that the concrete floor would remain, and a small window had been added to the top of the anemometer tower.
