This item was about the statue of M. K. Vainu Bappu was recently unveiled in the city, marking the significant contributions he made to astronomy in India. In the mid-forties, the state of astronomical research in India was paradoxical - the country produced several top-class theoretical scientists, but observational facilities were lacking. However, within 30 years, this state of affairs had drastically changed, and this was largely due to the pivotal role played by Dr. M. K. Vainu Bappu.
