The album contains photos of the buildings and events at Kodaikanal Solar Observatory in Tamil Nadu, India. The observatory was established in 1899 as a Solar Physics Observatory, and all the activities of the Madras Observatory were shifted to Kodaikanal. Firstly a few photos of this album are of telescope domes and buildings, particularly North and South domes and 6-inch and 8-inch telescope buildings. After that, several photos of the pump house near the administrative building for the well and administrative section of the old radio astronomy building are arranged. Photos of the second national solar physics workshop on 29th September 1987 are followed by photographs of the rear side of the spectrobuilding and road from the specrto tunnel towards the library. Photos of the solar tower taken in 1980, huts near the I and M building, and front, back, and side views of H alpha and Ca K spectrohelio graphs are arranged in the middle of the album. In addition to that, photos of the solar tower tunnel, library building, and Bhavanagar dome can be seen in the album.

The album contains photos related to the Solar Physics Observatory at Kodaikanal during Dr Anil Kumar Das's directorship. It was established in 1899 as a Solar Physics Observatory, and all the activities of the Madras Observatory were shifted to Kodaikanal. The photographs in this album illuminate the critical events in the history of the Kodaikanal Observatory from 1946 to 1955. The visit of eminent scientists and astronomers, official meetings and conferences, celebrations, and farewells and staff of the observatory during the period can be seen in the album.

The item consists of two black and white photographs of past employees of the Kodaikanal Observatory. Dr. A. L. Narayana and Dr. Anil Kumar Das were the fourth and fifth directors of Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, one of the oldest observatories in India. The time period of the photograph needs to be found.

Here also, we can find pictures of Peter's workshop on the 30-inch hydraulic slew clinch, Millino machine, Arbudaraj Bandsaw machine, Old Lathe machine, and one photo of Kodaikanal Library and 6-inch North dome.

Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

The item is related to the first Independence Day celebrations at Kodaikanal on 1947 August 15. The first photo is a group photo of all members sitting on the front side of the observatory. The second photograph is of the flag hoisting by the Director, Dr. Anil Kumar Das. All the names of the participants are written on the back side of the photograph.

The item is a black and white photograph taken at the retirement party of Mr. Paul Chinnappan, an employee of the Kodaikanal Observatory. The past director, Dr. A. L. Narayan, Paul Chinnappan, and other employees of Kodaikanal Observatory in 1945 can be seen in the photograph.
