Part of Correspondance regarding the proposal to build General Hospital

The letter is from the Director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories to the Surgeon-General, saying that the Meridian line of the Observatory passes through the Spur Tank and hence takes into consideration while making plans for the hospital that no chimney can come near the line.

The letter is from John Evershed, Ag. Director Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to The General Superintendent, Public Works Workshops, returning the blueprint of gearing for moving the spectroheliograph roof with measurements. He also encloses a sketch drawn to the scale of the wall, rail, and girder. And mention that the rack bar should be 18 feet long.

This letter explained on Observatories Committee recommendation that sunspot spectra should be photographed in the first place and that visual observations were to be secondary in the year 1895 or at any rate before 1901. Since he could not find an original document on the subject, he has requested to provide the copy of the recommendations previous to 1901.
