This item shows that C. M. Smith has just received from Turner an interesting letter about Lockyer, saying that there would be a counter proposal after the solar conference of September 25th 30th at Oxford. Asking Smith to contribute on solar and magnetic activity for the annual summary for the civil year 1904 as like he did for the previous year.

The item has two photographs captured during the Directors' conference at Kodaikanal held on 1st January 1953. The first is showing the directors who participated in the conference. The second photo shows the directors and observatory staff.

The album contains photos related to the Solar Physics Observatory at Kodaikanal during Dr Anil Kumar Das's directorship. It was established in 1899 as a Solar Physics Observatory, and all the activities of the Madras Observatory were shifted to Kodaikanal. The photographs in this album illuminate the critical events in the history of the Kodaikanal Observatory from 1946 to 1955. The visit of eminent scientists and astronomers, official meetings and conferences, celebrations, and farewells and staff of the observatory during the period can be seen in the album.
