              The item was about the rich tributes paid to the noted Indian astronomer M. K. Vainu Bappu. Scientists of Bombay at a condolence meeting held at the Nehru Planetarium on August 22. The director of TIFR said M. K. Vainu Bappu was a giant among astronomers and also suggested that the famous 90-inch telescope should be renamed after him. It also speaks on the M. K. Vainu Bappu-Wilson effect and also the first Indian to discover a comet that had been named after him.

              This item was about the 1977 Dr. Meghna Saha prize, which was given out by the UGC and accepted by Dr. M. K. Vainu Bappu, an IIA scientist. There was also mention of a few more scientists from various fields who had received honours in various categories.

              This letter was written by L. Robertson, Esquire, I.C.S., Secretary to Government to the Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Revenue and Agriculture, requesting the opinion of the Government of Bombay as to whether the Maharaja Takhtsingji Observatory at Poona should not be abolished on the retirement of Professor Naegamvala and as to whether the instruments etc. might not be removed to the observatory at Kodaikanal. He forwarded a list of principal instruments at the Poona Observatory and said the Maharaja of Bhavnagar accepted the above understanding.

              This is a reply letter about sanctioning the removal of all instruments belonging to the Poona Observatory to Kodaikanal. But if any of them are not of service to the observatory but are helpful to the College of Engineering Poona, they may be left for the use of the college.
