            This is a letter from Gilbert T. Walker, Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India and Director General of Indian Observatories, to the Director of the Solar Physics Observatory, Kodaikanal, regarding adopting standard time. An official order has yet to be received, so kindly arrange with the Superintendent of the Madras Telegraph Office to send the time signal at 16:00 hours, new standard time, after July 1.

            The letter is from Gilbert T. Walker to The Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories requesting to inform whether the instruments- "Richard's Barograph" and "Do Thermograph" -are still in use at the Periyakulam Observatory and also the dates on which each of these instruments were brought into use at the observatory. The sheet also has the reply to it, which says the instruments were brought on 1st March 1901 and were still in use.
