            The letter was written by E. C. J. Bond who was the officer in-charge No. 18 party (Magnetic), Survey of India to the Director of the Madras and Kodaiknal Observatories, Kodaikanal. He was asking the director to set up the necessary procedures to collect various deflections from the magnetograph in Kodaikanal, including visual and photographic deflections.

            Johannes Kepler's Astronomia Nova, published in 1609, was the oldest book available in the archives. It contains the results of Kepler's ten-year-long investigation of the motion of Mars. Where previous astronomers had relied on geometric models to explain the observed positions of the planets, Kepler discovered physical causes for planetary motion. Before Kepler, Nicolaus Copernicus proposed in 1543 that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun. Kepler was the first astronomer to prove this conjecture with rigorous scientific arguments. This Volume has 336 pages and is in fairly good condition.
