This letter is from Charles. P. Butler, Ag: Director, Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to the Meteorological Reporter to the Government of India & Director General of Indian Observatories, Simla, informing about the report from the observer at the Periyakulam station, that the fencing around the rain gauge is dilapidated and suggesting to remove the rain gauge to the enclosure of the thermometer shed as the distance from the current site to shed is about 50 yards but it may not be a serious difference from the records.

This letter is from the sub-Division Officer, PWD, Dindigul, to the Ag: Director, Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories, regarding the rain gauge pillar that is already at Periyakulam, the sanctioned Rs.140 for the works and the materials arrived.

This letter is from the Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to the Executive Engineer, Madura, regarding the plans and estimates for the bookbinder shed. He prefers the original plan to place the bookbinder in the present workshop and build a new workshop, as the mechanic's work on the anvil will disturb the observation work in the south dome. It also suggests that the verandah is only needed at the east and west sides of the workshop as if the verandah is at all sides, it makes the room dark, and that part of the eastern verandah should be enclosed to be used as smiddy.

This is the reply letter from the Director of Kodaikanal & Madras Observatories to the Executive Engineer, Madura, regarding the query about the type of marble to be used. In the letter, he mentions any marble is fine as far as it is free from iron; also states Carrara marble is as good as statuary marble.

This letter is written to Mr. Field regarding the removal of the revolving dome of the 20-inch telescope and the sending of the instruments and apparatus to Kodaikanal. The letter also asks to send some microscopes to attach to the barometers in Kodaikanal, if there are any spare ones.

In this memorandum the government had under consideration the question of constructing residential quarters for the officers of the Police Department and proposed the portion marked 'D' in the enclosed plan of the Madras Observatory

This letter is from W. J. Dunlop to the Executive Engineer informing that the domes etc belonging to the observatory building should be closed under machinery and the cost of such items should be deducted from the capital cost. Also a reply letter from the director of Kodaikanal and Madras Observatories Michie Smith questioning this is a very troublesome work and also he mentioned that this cannot be reached by any considerate of cost.
