Sir John Eliot was born on 25 May 1839. He served as the second meteorological reporter to the Indian government and also as the director-general of Indian observatories from 1899 to 1903.

Sir George Clarke Simpson (2 September 1878 – 1 January 1965) was a British meteorologist. He was President of the Royal Meteorological Society 1940/41.
